I’m thrilled to share an exciting update with you: the Kale Brock Designs Performance Mid-Length Surfboard is now available!
This project has been a deeply rewarding journey, and I’m proud to introduce a board that represents years of dedication to surfing and design.
It’s a piece I’ve carefully crafted, and I’m eager for you to experience it firsthand. Many of you have asked me about this shape over the past few years as I’ve been diligently testing it around the world and finally I can answer that YES it’s available for you to try!
It’s been a long journey to get here, but it feels great!
The Path to This Design
For those who’ve followed my work—through my films, videos, or perhaps even out on the water—you know how passionate I am about surfing. I’ve long been fascinated by the balance of tradition and innovation in board design, particularly with mid-length surfboards.
They offer a unique combination of stability and manoeuverability, bridging the gap between longboards and shortboards. However, I wanted to create something that went beyond the standard—a mid length surfboard that was built for high performance.
After months of testing and adjustments, we’ve arrived at a design that delivers exceptional performance while maintaining a smooth, natural feel on the wave. It’s a board I’ve come to trust in all conditions, and I believe it has something special to offer surfers of every level - and I’ve seen this reflected in people’s experiences with the shape (just take a look at some of our reviews)
Three years of R&D went into this shape.
What Sets This Board Apart
The KBD Performance Mid-Length is built with purpose. Its streamlined shape ensures easy paddling, while the carefully tuned rocker provides control in critical sections of the wave. With balanced volume, it excels at maintaining momentum through slower moments, yet it remains agile enough for dynamic turns. This versatility makes it suitable for a range of conditions—from fast, steep waves to gentler, rolling ones.
My aim was to create a surfboard that feels intuitive and responsive combining the timeless appeal of a mid-length with modern performance elements.
Bringing It to Life
The process of developing this board has been an incredible experience, one I’ve documented along the way (you can watch the story above). From initial concepts to seeing the first prototypes take shape, every step has been guided by a commitment to the performance and to you guys; my students (who I wanted this board to be for!).
