Immersive Nicaragua Surf Experience

Welcome!

The Surfer’s Roadmap is excited to present another retreat series in Nicaragua.

Here is everything you need to know about your trip. We’re stoked to host you in this amazing, tropical location and elevate your surfing.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to Chris.

Bringing the right surfboards

We recommend you bring at least 2 surfboards with you so that you may have a backup in place if one breaks during the trip (there are no surf shops nearby).

Expect between chest high waves and overhead waves during your retreat and pack accordingly. Right out front we have a softer, peaky beach break on offer which is fantastic for a performance mid length, but we’ll also chase slightly steeper waves where a regular shortboard might be preferable.

Consider bringing

1-2x shortboards (or, your every day surfboard)

1x performance mid length

Kale Brock Designs Performance Mid Lengths

Consider getting yourself a Kale Brock Designs Performance Mid Length - use the exclusive discount code TSRNICARAGUA25 to receive $100 a new surfboard order (see the website for international order logistics)

Daily schedule

Our schedule is flexible to maximise alignment with the best waves, but a coaching day typically is;

Morning

  • Group breakfast

  • Morning surf + video analysis

  • Group lunch

Afternoon/Evening

  • Afternoon surf

  • Group dinner

You will have time to relax and rest, however the week is very full. We highly suggest you consider leading up to your retreat with our fitness programs available on The Surfers Roadmap.

Pre-retreat TSR Access

3 months prior to the retreat, you’ll get access to The Surfer’s Roadmap. Our Intermediate Roadmap and the Ultimate Surf-Skate programs are included within your retreat cost.

You will receive an email notifying you when you have been signed up, along with a password for access.

Until then, we have several other courses including our new Advanced Surfer’s Roadmap.

Retreat Media - > ACCESS HERE <

We understand that the photos and videos we capture on retreat are important to you.

You’ll be able to peruse retreat media at the conclusion of each day from your phone or laptop and utilise at will.

Your take home analysis

We aim to have your take home analysis ready within 2-3 weeks following your retreat. This will be available from the link above, along with a copy of all your waves on video.

Group Communication

When you are ready, please join your respective retreat’s What’s App group down below, so that you and other students can communicate leading up to the retreat (and whilst on retreat for logistical purposes).

Nicaragua: Deep Dive

Our last trips to Nicaragua were incredible and you can check them out on YouTube.

Nicaragua: Deep Dive

We’ll be attending at a similar time of year. It was fantastic to have waves where every level of surfer could be out in the water feeling confident and safe to explore their own progression goals.

Retreat FAQ’s

  • Please arrive for

  • Out of pocket expenses to consider are additional snacks and drinks, alcoholic drinks, tips for local staff and guides. This does not represent all of the additional costs you may incur during the trip. For what’s included in your retreat package please see kalebrock.com.au/nicaragua the ‘what’s included’ section.

  • We cannot advise on visa’s, specific insurances and associated travel requirements e.g. COVID 19. Remember even if you are transiting through the USA (as a non-resident) you will still need an ESTA.

We do highly recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance and provide us with the details.

  • Our surf experiences are strictly non refundable. As such, we strongly recommend you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to protect you should you need to cancel. Deposits are non refundable and final payments are non refundable. This is because we commit this equity to securing locations and the heavy administrative duties involved in organising these experiences. In most cases, you are able to sell/transfer your place on an experience to another person. If there are external circumstances out of our control which prevent us from running the experience (natural disaster, pandemic travel restrictions, political upheaval, war etc) we will offer you a credit on the experience to use at a later date.

Working with Kale

  • “I’ve improved more in 1 week than I have over 20 years of surfing! I’m so grateful to Kale and also incredibly annoyed at myself! Why didn’t I do this earlier!? I finally know what I should be doing to progress my surfing.

There are coaches and then there’s Kale. I don’t think there’s another surfer at Kale's level who also has the natural gift of coaching.”

    Seb (TSR Nicaragua Student)

  • “When I’m surfing now I have so much more awareness about what to do on a wave to keep me in the power zone and to actually progress. Kale definitely has the sport of surfing broken down into its precise components and has a great skill in explaining those components to anyone.”

    Tim (TSR Maldives Student)

  • “Kale has produced a surf coaching program that has made strong surfing technique bioavailable to his students. I now know I can improve and how I can improve.

My world has opened up so far as surfing is concerned and I couldn't be more psyched.”

    Kevin (TSR Nicaragua Student)

  • “My 1 week in Nicaragua with Kale was exactly what I needed to get my surfing to the next level.

Kale has a special gift in not just seeing the complexity of surfing, but more importantly, he has the gift of being able to break the complexity down into simple instructions / cues for his students... I will be back for more! “

    Kasper (TSR Nicaragua Student)

  •  “He’s an amazing coach. He breaks down the fundamentals of surfing and its biomechanics really well with excellent articulation. The side by side video analysis was particularly helpful for me and has definitely helped me take big steps forward in my surfing this week.”

    John (TSR Maldives Student)

  • What normally would take me years of trial and error I learned in 1 week with Kale. He truly has a passion for surfing and teaching.

This retreat has given me a new perspective on how I view surfing and it’s something I wish I had access to 20 years ago. Already looking forward to the next trip!“

    Joey (TSR Nicaragua Student)
